Do you have 20/20 vision? We like to see that! However, there is so much more to having healthy eyes than just being able to read the eye chart. In fact, according to the Canadian Association of Optometrists, 1 in 7 Canadians with 20/20 vision will still develop a serious disorder of the eye. Often, eye diseases and conditions begin with no signs or symptoms, and early detection is important. Book your appointment today if you’re due!
During an eye exam, your optometrist will assess your eye health including eyelids, cornea, iris and lens. They will look inside your eyes, and the pressure in your eyes may be checked to screen for glaucoma. A visual field test may be done to check central and peripheral vision. Your optometrist will also check how well your eyes work together, focus near and far, and do visual tests. They will also monitor for conditions such as:
- Glaucoma
- Cataracts
- Macular Degeneration
- Other disorders of the retina
